    They chickens look like they are enjoying the new mulch. Why you can’t use the mulch in your garden if it has black walnut in it?

    • @Robinson-Homestead
      @Robinson-Homestead 3 години тому

      Black walnut trees have a well-deserved reputation for making life difficult for gardeners because they release a toxic compound called juglone, which can adversely affect many kinds of plants.

    Do not want a trimmer with the motor built into the stringhead. It puts the weight of the motor far away from your body and after a while that weight works on your back. You want to buy a trimmer that has the motor up near the battery. Keeps the weight near the handle and it makes for a much more comfortable to operate trimmer. If you can hold the unit in the store to see just what I am talking about.

    "Look at the thickness of that steel", lol. No, it is far from heavy duty or tough. After two years my 1248 frame shows multiple divots, dings and bulges from cutting tall brush in a field that had more than a few rocks and things that go bang. Not ridiculous things, just what you'd find in a rough field. Not thick strong steel.

    The rain barrel is a good size, and besides not paying for water, it's close by for veggies and chickens. To grow veggies is a therapeutic rewarding hobby. It's like going back to your childhood playing with dirt. And you get food as a bonus! It's going to be great to garden. Whether you get enough veggies or not, you had a good time learning 😊 Good to see you Kevin and Julie.

    I too capture rain water from my back gutter, and that is where my row of tomatoes are, you wont believe the difference compaired to clorinated hose water, the plants love the rain water, I have a 32 gallon garbage can, and I put 2 cups of coop poop I buy on Amazon and I mix it with the rain water and water the tomatoes and all the rest with that, the difference is night and day.

    • @Robinson-Homestead

    I like spending time in the garden, Kevin, I had 8 tomato plants and I canned 52 qts, I canned 16 qts of hot peppers, I had 3 zuccinni plants, so we had zuccinni pretty much all year. Kevin I planted 8 cabbage and just about the time they were the size of a softball, the cabbage moths planted eggs in them and they destroyed every single one, I had 2 cucumber plants so I had cucumber and tomato salads 3 days a week. I did pay about $5 each for the tomato plants, the cabbage, zuccinni and cukes I just put the seeds in the ground on Memorial weekend, they grow quick, it`s kind of hobby for me and it ends up being free food, I did give a lot to my neihbors, because once everything starts coming in, you get a lot, be well.

    • @Robinson-Homestead
      @Robinson-Homestead 4 дні тому

      Wow Joe, sounds like your garden did great , we can't wait for a good juicy tomato from the garden and we also had a lot of salads last year, nothing like growing and eating from the garden all summer.

    Gardening is more than just dollars and sense. My wife enjoys going out and "playing" in the dirt and any vegetables we get are frosting on the cake. We've had early tomatoes and cucumbers from the store that usually come from Florida (we're in Wisconsin)and they have absolutely NO flavor whatsoever compared to what we get out of our little plot in the backyard. NOTHING compares to fresh fruit or vegetables right out of the garden. Is it worth it you ask? ... yes, to us it is.
